Our small family delicatessen is situated in the heart of Chester's Garden Quarter. Papà provided Italian and other Continental food stuffs to the people of Chester and further afield for over 30 years.
Here, in Armando's, you'll find authentic Italian produce not found in the 'High Street' supermarkets including fabulous Cured and Cooked Meats to be shared on a platter, or placed in a tasty sandwich. Artisan Cheeses that will highlight any cheeseboard, provide flavorsome fillings, or add both subtle and deep flavors to all your dishes. Fresh Pastas from which the recipes's have been around since medieval times past.
Our shelves offer a range of nostalgia, filled with products that are sure to bring back memories, or give new vision and ideas for the future.
All these marvelous tastes of Italy and the Mediterranean, are sure to help you in your quest to make all those dishes - Just like Mamma used to make!
What about the man Armando?
Once upon a time
Armando's Deli - Also known by many as "The Pasta Man's"...
Armando Malanga opened the doors to his shop after retiring from Bowater Paper Mills, Ellesmere Port, and his mobile shop over 30 years ago. His passion for selling what he loved most – PASTA - was inspired after spending 10 years working part time delivering Italian food to fellow Italians in and around Chester. The mobile shop had everything he so dearly missed - pasta, olive oils, cheeses, salamis, breads and more... The shop became a family affair alongside his wife of 62 years and six children.
During these 30 years, he made all sorts of friends, from new born babies to great grandparents, and not forgetting the pet dogs that used to go in with their owners & come out with a doggy bag of prosciutto rind. He saw these babies grow into adults and even get an invite to their wedding. He welcomed every passerby with a smile and a wave, but if you popped in, you never left without a sweet or a taste of his cheese or salami!
He suddenly fell asleep 5th February 2016 – A memorable legacy; but still kept in the 'family' today.
